How to Put Supernatural Power to Work

Text: But you shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you and you shall be my witnesses… Acts 1:8

As witnesses, our lives should be evidences or living proofs to the fact that Jesus is alive today. And whatever manifestations were seen then is still possible through us. Hebrews 13:8, John 14:12. Remember it was this same Holy Ghost and power that enabled him do what he did according to Acts 10:38. It says, ‘How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth who went about doing good…’

Also take note of the word ‘after’. If the bible says that we shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon us, why is it that many of us are not experiencing the reality of this power? If it was the same Holy Ghost and power, how do we now experience the same results and even more as he said? How do we walk in the reality of this power that is supposed to be in us after the Holy Ghost is come upon us?

A clue to the answer can still be found in Act 10:38. There the Bible says that God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and with power who went about doing good. The word ‘doing’ here is worthy of note. It is indeed what makes the difference. It means that Jesus had to engage that power. This simply means that he had to put it to work. He went about doing something with what was in him.

Ephesians 3:20 says that God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that is at work in us. That is it. I am sure you did not miss that very important point in the text, ‘according to the power that is at work in us’.

Putting this power to work is what holds the key. It can break the hold of any destructive habit or attitude, destroy every disease and sickness causing evil life carrier, break barriers in our careers and businesses, drive away frustration, strife, lack of peace in our life and families, etc.

Now to help us understand this, let us look at these illustrations. That we have a generator in the house does not mean that the house is powered. First of all the generator has to be turned on. Secondly, that a generator is on and producing power does not mean that the power is being engaged to any productive use in the house. It is when we put the power into operation by releasing it into our appliances that we can see the manifestation of the benefits that power can give.

Now receiving the Holy Spirit is like the generator being mounted in us. There are things we can do to turn the power on and there are things we can do that can ‘quench’ the power. Even when the power is on, it is our responsibility to put the power to work. Like in the case of our houses, we benefit from the power only when it is put to work in turning our fans, running our air-conditioning systems, etc. and may be other things we are yet to discover.

The same way we can only know what the power in us can do when we engage it, that is when put to work. The capacity of what God has put in us by giving us the Holy Spirit is unlimited. The only limitation is the one we put to it. How, you may ask?

• By the extent of our vision. That is how far we can see into the unseen – those aspirations, desires that you have not laid hold of physically. How much we can dream, etc.
• By how much we believe in that which we see in the unseen regardless of what seems to be the realities of today.
• By the level of our faith. Faith is seen by the level of action our believing causes us to produce. One way to describe faith is to say that it is, belief in action or believing put to work.

Drawing from the example of Jesus, the Bible says he was anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power and went about doing. The manifestations were obviously as a result of the ‘doings’.

So what are you doing today with what is in you? It can be put to use to meet a need in your own life or better still in the lives of many others. If we do nothing with or about what is in us it is very unlikely we will have manifestations. The Bible says concerning the disciples that God was working with them confirming his words with signs following. God works with them that do something with what he has put in them.

Break loose today and start doing something with what you have got. Explore, create, innovate. Step out to accomplish that dream, that vision, that thing that is burning in your heart, that thing that is being stirred in your heart right now, that idea that has been dormant for a long time which you have done nothing about. Make that first move to reconciling with that family member. If you are reading this and is down afflicted by any sickness arise now.

God has sent me with this word to you today for the birthing of that dream and vision. Let’s do something with what we have got. Congratulations..

It is important to say here that Jesus is God’s love gift to the world but the Holy Ghost is his gift to them that receive Jesus. John 3:16, John 7:39, John 14:17.
